May,24th,2006, Dr. Wenhui Shan discusses the conceptual design of the Shanghai World Expo Pavilion

In an interview with Chinanews, Dr. Shan said, “The Expo theme, ‘Better city, Better life’ explores the positive meaning of city life, seeks innovative solutions to relieve the pressures of urbanization, and aims to create a better future for urban residents.

As a celebration of the human spirit , the Expo itself is collaboration of international urban practices where Expo participants will showcase innovative concepts of urbanization through spatial reconstruction, social mobilization and financial investment.

As cities transform and continue to shape and influence livelihoods, we can begin to imagine a new mode of urban life based on the following hierarchy- live-work space, networks of life, imagination, vitality and happiness. We link these layers with the distinct spatial formation and our urban imagination. Material satisfaction, connectedness, spiritual fulfillment, innovation and joy are all elements taken into account in a holistic developmental framework.
