Yuxi has been a city of mountain and water since ancient time. It is located along river and old city is based on location from Yuan and Ming dynasty, surrounded by moat. The natural along with cultural landscape, eco with Longma, Fenghuang, Linzhao, Qipan Moutain. It is traditional philosophy of communication between human and nature. Even in today, it doesn’t lose their value but more important. The growth of regional economy, growth of urban population, expansion of urban space and tension of social psychology make urban development and natural environmental balance more urgent.

Urban design as a strategy tool for improving urban spatial quality has to balance economic, administrative and socio-cultural factors and consider ecological and aesthetics needs. By attracting investment, business, tourism and immigrants to improve economic competitiveness, to build clean, green sustainable and efficient energy use and environment friendly city and to create a friendly, walkable, safe and convenient urban environment.

After analysis of Yuxi geographical, economic and social development features. Based on urban design and development of domestic and international cities, with polycentric network structure, walkable space, humanscale blocksize, mixed landuse function, convenient transportation and high-quality open space, we pursue an inherent flexibility and adaptability of urban design.  New economic development promotes social progress and improves quality of civilians, while highlighting Yuxi most valuable natural and cultural features, which two makes the unique characteristics of Yuxi.
