Urban Planning
The project is situated at the confluence of the millennia-old Ancient Canal and the Grand Canal—a location that serves not only as a transportation hub but also as an economic, cultural, and ecological nexus. Historically, the Grand Canal’s waterborne transport function brought prosperity to cities along its banks. Today, its role has evolved into a vital ecological and cultural corridor running through the densely populated eastern regions of China.
The core concept of the plan focuses on reviving the cultural value of the historic canal and creating a "New Town Along the Ancient River." The design aims to rejuvenate the canal while preserving its traditional character, harmonizing it with the modern urban living environment of the "New Town." The development and enhancement of the canal will go beyond its original transport function, infusing it with new cultural, commercial, recreational, and leisure purposes to establish a landmark destination beloved by locals and essential for tourists.
Leveraging the two blue ecological corridors of the Ancient Canal and the Grand Canal, the plan seeks to tap into Jining’s rich canal heritage and intricate waterfront urban fabric. The area will be transformed into a "Cultural Island and Leisure City" that embodies Jining’s regional identity while integrating modern features, combining cultural tourism, leisure commerce, headquarters economy, and eco-friendly living. This will allow both residents and visitors to immerse themselves in historical and cultural experiences while enjoying the diverse offerings of contemporary lifestyles.
