Yangpu, Shanghai

The project scope spans from south of Yangshupu Road to the Huangpu River, bounded by Qinhuangdao Road to the west and Dinghai Road to the east, covering a 5.5-kilometer waterfront and approximately 1.78 square kilometers, with a total road network of 8.2 kilometers. Centered on Anpu Road, the design systematically reorganizes the 8-kilometer road network under the principles of low-carbon mobility, slow travel, and shared spaces, categorizing roads by distinct characteristics and establishing design guidelines. Emphasis is placed on elevating the quality of street furnishings and fostering seamless integration between roads and their surrounding urban fabric. As of 2023, a 2.4-kilometer pilot section has been implemented, crafting streetscapes that blend natural charm with cultural vitality, catering to pedestrians and cyclists while encouraging active, healthy lifestyles.

The design adopts a "multifunctional sharing" approach—melding daily life into the street—by harmonizing the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, street facilities, and adjacent commercial, social, and cultural activities. It introduces shared streets, green streets, and smart streets to enhance face-to-face interactions and invigorate public spaces. Guided by the values of slow mobility, ecological sustainability, and intelligent design, the project transforms Yangpu Riverside into an experiential destination, structured around four key components.

Through inviting pedestrian pathways, cycling routes, and thoughtfully curated streetscapes, the design elevates the environmental quality of the street network. Beyond basic transit functions, these spaces now offer leisure, social engagement, and smart technology interactions, creating a vibrant, ecologically conscious, and culturally rich model district for urban landscape innovation.
