Ningbo Industrial Design Center is an integrated, holistic and creative urban project. The Center is located at an excellent waterfront site which gives it unique spatial qualities. Our conceptual design is mainly based on two considerations. In the information age, production, consumption and trade act at a global scale, bringing changes to the functions of the urban centre which now becomes a place for the service industry sector. The urban centre attracts talents with technology, knowledge, the skills of professionals and agencies, and through the excellent quality of life, information infrastructure and public services. The urban centre thus becomes a centre of knowledge creation, serving the region. Using open public spaces, in particular the Sunken Square and the Water Plaza, we organize the architecture and landscape to create spaces which provides an interface between buildings and users, incorporating the riverside land-scape with the cultural landscape. The architectural design provides a flexible, open and sustainable new industrial design center, which will attract creative companies from around the world. The waterfront is used as a green belt and is a fully integrated into the program, serving as a connector, public space and smooth transition space from the riverside landscape to the new urban design. The program is designed and structured in a way that provides all the potential for exchange, innovation and cre¬ativity that such a major design center requires.
