At the Municipal CPPCC thematic meeting on January 17, Shanghai CPPCC member Shan Wenhui pointed out that while Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone was designed as a typical replica of Manhattan's CBD in the U.S., there remain notable differences. Compared to Manhattan, Lujiazui lacks a well-developed street network and suffers from insufficient richness and continuity in its facilities.

"From the perspective of urban development, Pudong still has significant room for improvement," she stated. Particularly in terms of spatial scale, while the buildings in Lujiazui are visually striking, the connectivity between blocks remains problematic. She noted that the rental prices of some office buildings in Lujiazui are lower than those in the city's mid-ring area, largely due to inadequate commercial supporting facilities.

Dr. Shan further emphasized that although Pudong boasts many world-class facilities, the connections between key areas such as Pudong Airport, the economic zone, Yangshan Port, Disney, and Zhangjiang High-Tech Park are weak. She proposed linking these areas through public transport and small-scale light rail systems. Additionally, leveraging digital technology to establish connections between these industrial clusters could yield unexpected benefits.

Moreover, the density of metro stations in Pudong is noticeably lower than in Puxi. Dr. Shan argued that Pudong's construction density should surpass Puxi's, and its station planning and land-use layout require more rational arrangements. (Xinmin Net reporter: Bu Chunyan)
