On August 30, a six-member delegation consisting of Swedish government officials and university professors made a special trip to Shanghai. They held detailed discussions with Dr. Shan Wenhui in our company's conference room regarding collaborative research on the "Cities Beyond Oil" project, reaching a consensus on cooperation.
Earlier in March, Dr. Shan Wenhui, representing Fudan University's Urban Research Center, co-organized a week-long doctoral training course on "Sustainable Urban Development" with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) at Fudan University. Participants included Ph.D. students from Shanghai's Fudan University, Tongji University, and universities from four Nordic countries. The course achieved excellent results, and Dr. Shan's rigorous academic approach left a deep impression on the Swedish experts, sparking strong interest in further collaboration.
In August, Sweden dispatched a delegation of distinguished experts in their respective fields to Shanghai for consultations on the next phase of joint research. The delegation included:
- Mr. Rolf Lindell, Official from the Swedish Ministry of Environment
- Professor Göran Cars and Professor Bergman from KTH
- Professor Henrietta Palmer from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm
- Professor Björn Malbert from Chalmers University of Technology
The collaborative research project, titled "Cities Beyond Oil," will conduct in-depth scientific studies on urban redevelopment in specific districts from the perspective of oil-free (i.e., sustainable) development. Initiated by the Swedish Ministry of Environment and UN-Habitat, the project involves five universities:
- China: Fudan University Urban Research Center, Tongji University
- Sweden: Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Royal University College of Fine Arts, Chalmers University of Technology
Preliminary plans include selecting one urban area each in Shanghai and Sweden as case studies.
