From March 5 to 10, 2007, Fudan University's Urban Research Center, in collaboration with the Fudan University Nordic Centre and the Department of Planning at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden, conducted a week-long doctoral course on "Sustainable Urban Development." The course attracted seven doctoral students from Nordic countries and ten from Fudan and Tongji Universities.
In addition to covering relevant theories and research methods, the course used the redevelopment of Shanghai's waterfront area as a case study. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, it explored sustainable development strategies encompassing social, cultural, economic, and environmental dimensions. Dr. Shan delivered two lectures during the course and provided guidance on research methodologies and content for the case study. Five professors and experts from Sweden participated in the teaching.
