"China possesses a profound historical civilization, with each city boasting unique local culture," she emphasized. "Modern urban development should maintain continuity with this cultural heritage. Architectural works must actively express this connection to preserve cities' historical essence, demonstrate respect for the past, and help local communities establish new regional identities while adapting to modern urban lifestyles."
Dr. Shan identified sustainable development as the most pressing challenge facing Chinese cities today.
